Alterum Watch Co.
Alterum Watch Co. was founded by designer Justin Walters around a single premise: that simplicity, taken to its limit, becomes truth. Walters set out to build a hybrid American-Swiss brand — American in its design language, Swiss in its manufacturing — drawing inspiration from icons of American and modernist design and architecture rather than watchmaking tradition itself, among them Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum, Norman Foster's Apple Park, Marcel Breuer's Wassily chair, the Leica M3, the original Ray-Ban Wayfarer, and Steve McQueen's effortless personal style.
That philosophy took physical form in the brand's debut watch, the Alterum Worldtimer, which does away with conventional hands entirely. Time is read across three or four concentric disks: the innermost tracks the minutes, the next the hours, a further ring the 24-hour time with a day/night indicator, and the outermost disk 24 world cities for reading other time zones at a glance. The vapor-blasted 316L stainless steel case, 38.5mm by 10.5mm, carries a stepped bezel and an integrated, lugless bracelet directly modelled on the tiered geometry of the Guggenheim, with two recessed crowns at two and four o'clock — one turning the bidirectional city disk, the other winding and setting the time.
To build it, Walters partnered with Roventa-Henex, Switzerland's best-known 'white label' watch manufacturer, whose work sits inside watches from many far larger brands without ever bearing its own name. Roventa-Henex reworked Sellita's SW330-2 GMT automatic specifically for the Worldtimer, removing the standard date wheel and central seconds and modifying the GMT module to drive the outer city disk instead of a conventional hand, for 56 hours of reserve and 5 ATM of water resistance. The result won the inaugural Dubai Watch Week × Grail Watch design competition in 2024, and the watch is sold both directly and through Grail Watch, the retail arm of Singapore-based Revolution Watch, as well as at Ahmed Seddiqi boutiques in the UAE.
The Worldtimer has been released as a quartet of 100-piece limited editions: the original, in a grained grey dial at 3,315 USD, sold out; the New York Edition, in black PVD with a matte black dial evoking the city at night, at 3,550 USD; the Los Angeles Edition, in gold PVD capturing the city's sunset tones, also at 3,550 USD; and the Horizon Edition, the quartet's white-dialled finale, with 'Singapore' picked out in red on the city ring in tribute to Revolution's founding home, at 3,650 USD.
