Radcliffe Watch Co. is an Oxford-based independent watch brand founded by Tayeb Boussalia — an architect and designer who followed an increasingly familiar path into watchmaking: a professional life spent thinking about buildings, proportion, light, and material, followed by the realisation that all of those sensibilities could be compressed into the smallest possible object with the greatest possible mechanical richness. Boussalia describes his journey from architecture into watch design as driven by passion — the same instinct that leads an architect to obsess over the section of a mullion or the radius of a stair nosing now channelled into the proportions of a case, the depth of a dome crystal, and the visual relationship between a movement and the dial surface that frames it. The brand takes its name from Oxford's most iconic landmark — the Radcliffe Camera, the circular library designed by James Gibbs and completed in 1749, whose domed rotunda is one of the most photographed buildings in England and one of the purest expressions of English Baroque architecture.

That dome is the direct formal ancestor of the Le Dôme collection: the watch's defining feature is a pronounced domed sapphire crystal that creates an immediate visual signature unlike any other watch in the affordable independent category. Radcliffe Watch Co. operates on a pre-order model with limited production runs, building a waiting list and opening pre-orders in timed windows. The Le Dôme Classic is the foundational model — an automatic watch whose defining characteristic is the pronounced dome that gives the collection its name, creating a distinctive elevated visual experience. The dome serves both aesthetic and optical purposes: it magnifies the dial slightly when viewed straight on, and creates dynamic light interactions across the curved crystal surface that a flat crystal cannot replicate. The design deliberately echoes the Radcliffe Camera's dome, translated from stone and lead into sapphire glass. The case is Swiss-made, the movement Swiss automatic. Le Dôme Classic has been produced across three generations of editions, each introducing new dial treatments: early editions established the core dial palette; the second generation brought bolder colourways and broader collector recognition; and the third generation introduced the crystallised titanium Cristal Tropical variant — a dial material in which no two examples are identical, each carrying its own landscape of emerald tones, shimmering textures, and organic variation. Other colourways across the editions have included Pistachio — notable for its elegant presence on smaller wrists, which the brand has actively celebrated as evidence that the design transcends any single wrist size or gender convention.

The Le Dôme Tourbillon elevates the concept with a flying tourbillon complication visible through the domed crystal — the architectural relationship between dome and tourbillon being natural and intentional, both structures defined by rotation and elevation. It is also offered in the Cristal Tropical crystallised titanium dial variant and in limited pre-order quantities alongside the Classic. Boussalia has described the current edition as potentially the last edition of Le Dôme in its current form, giving the pre-order urgency for collectors who have been watching the brand's evolution.
