Aleksandr Nesterenko

Aleksandr Nesterenko is an independent watchmaker based in Saint Petersburg, Russia, working under a founding principle he states as directly as possible: 'One Person – One Watch.' Every piece that leaves his workshop is created as a single, unrepeated object, developed in direct collaboration between the master and the future owner rather than drawn from a catalogue or produced in any kind of run. Nesterenko has been recognised three times as Best Watchmaker of Russia (2022, 2023, and 2024) by Watch Media and the National Association of Watchmakers, and his work has been featured by BestWatch, SJX Watches, Chronoscope, Beans and Bezels, and CronoTempvs Collectors, among other specialist publications, establishing him as one of the most closely watched independent voices to emerge from Russian watchmaking. In his own words: 'I create not a product, but a character. Each of my movements lives together with its owner.' Every watch is intended to reflect the individual who commissions it — their character, profession, personal style, and inner energy — making each finished piece as much a portrait as a mechanical object.

Art Deco is Nesterenko's signature and primary collection, and the name describes both a visual language and a working philosophy. The aesthetic is built on symmetry and geometry, expressed through perfect proportions and clear architectural lines; luxury is pursued through details rather than ostentation, embedded in the finishing, the polishing, and the proportions rather than announced through scale or ornament; and form is made to follow function throughout, with ergonomics and refinement considered in every element of the design. The dial is a multi-level composition crafted entirely by hand, its layered construction emphasising depth and the architectural character central to Art Deco design, while Breguet-style hands lend visual balance and a refined sense of dynamism to the whole. Each hand is itself assembled from multiple individually finished and polished components — a level of construction detail typically reserved for the movement rather than the hands themselves.

At the centre of every watch is the proprietary AN-01 calibre, developed on the base of the dependable Russian Raketa 2609 movement — a deliberate choice that roots Nesterenko's work in Russia's own horological manufacturing tradition rather than relying on imported Swiss ébauches. Each AN-01 is individually finished: Nesterenko offers his clients a choice of decorative treatments, from patterns reminiscent of ice ridges to wave-like textures, with all bridges crafted from German silver and decorated entirely by hand, including perlage, anglage, and mirror polishing. The movement runs at 26mm diameter, 18,000 vibrations per hour, with a 42-hour power reserve and an accuracy of ±10 seconds per day. The case is 316L stainless steel in a multi-level construction that creates a genuinely complex architectural relief across its surface, 10mm thick, available in 39mm and 42mm sizes, comfortable enough for everyday wear and slim enough to fit easily under a shirt cuff; a combination of mirror polishing and satin finishing plays with light across the case surfaces to further underline the Art Deco aesthetic. Straps are handcrafted in Saint Petersburg from genuine leather, with a choice of material, texture, and colour available to each client, serving as the final individualising touch on every commission. The commissioning process is personal from the first contact: prospective clients submit their preferences directly, Nesterenko personally reaches out to discuss every detail and the client's vision, a sketch is developed together, and only then does construction of the one-of-a-kind timepiece begin.
