Dumoreau

Dumoreau is an independent watch brand founded in 2020 in Huntington Beach, California, by Carlo Aiello — an architect, product designer, and author whose prior career operated at an entirely different scale. Before launching Dumoreau, Aiello worked on large-scale architectural projects including a proposal for a new Guggenheim Museum with Asymptote Architecture and several skyscrapers with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM). His Parabola Chair — designed with the same ergonomic instincts he applies to watches — won both the Red Dot Award and the Good Design Award, and is held in the permanent collections of the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design. He also received the ICFF Studio Award. The brand name derives from 'du Moreau' — 'of Moreau,' the French surname that is part of Aiello's heritage. As Aiello himself describes it, moving from architecture to watches was a deliberate jump in scale: where a building can take a decade to realise, with dozens of collaborators and enormous economic risk, a watch allows the same design instincts to materialise rapidly and with total creative control. Every Dumoreau is designed in California and manufactured in Switzerland — most through the renowned Swiss watch contractor Roventa-Henex — producing a range that carries the 'Swiss Made' designation throughout.

The DM01 was the debut — an integrated bracelet sports watch with a clearly Genta-inspired DNA: strong horizontal lines, a tonneau-adjacent case form, and a direct visual dialogue with the late-1970s integrated bracelet aesthetic of the Royal Oak and Nautilus, executed with originality rather than imitation. Critically reviewed as one of the best-designed affordable integrated bracelet watches in its class, the DM01 launched via Kickstarter and achieved over 163% of its funding goal. It was powered by a Miyota movement and offered in multiple dial colourways including Peacock, Gold, Royal Blue Fumé, and Turquoise — all at USD 395–495, and all now sold out. The DM01 established Dumoreau's identity as a brand where architectural sensibility, restrained design, and value proposition intersect.

The DM02 is where the brand fully matured. Designed as a contemporary dress watch in 39mm, it marked a deliberate stylistic departure from the DM01's angularity: the DM02 trades flat surfaces and sharp edges for compound curves that flow organically from the domed sapphire crystal all the way to the caseback, with twisted lugs that blend into the case geometry to create one unified sculptural form — much as the Parabola Chair's ergonomics grow organically from its structure. The case is polished 316L stainless steel, 9.5mm tall, 46mm lug-to-lug. The dial is a two-piece construction with guilloché concentric circles at the centre and a circular-brushed finish at the numerals, the numerals themselves designed in-house to follow the curvature of the surface and printed multiple times via traditional pad printing to create a three-dimensional relief effect. Large-radial Arabic numerals and a minute track give maximum legibility.

Powered by the hand-wound Sellita SW210-1, adjusted to five positions at ±7 seconds per day, 18 jewels, 28,800 A/h (4Hz), 42-hour power reserve — finished with Geneva stripes on the bridges, circular graining on the mainplate, snailed crown wheel and ratchet, and blue screws. The 6.5mm knurled crown offers a pleasurable daily winding experience; despite being hand-wound, a pull-out rather than screw-down crown was chosen for aesthetic coherence, engineered with a triple-gasket construction to achieve 100 metres water resistance. Sapphire crystals front and back with underside anti-reflective coating. The DM02 was limited to 300 pieces across dial variants including Royal Blue, White, Salmon, Black, Emerald Green, and Moss Green (50-piece exclusive edition) — the Roman DM02 introduced a Roman-numeral dial variant. Every edition is now sold out. Italian-made leather straps and alligator leather options accompanied the standard release.

The Monopusher Chronograph is Dumoreau's most recent and most ambitious model. Limited to 300 pieces across two configurations — Panda (white dial, black registers) and Reverse Panda (black dial, white registers) — it measures 40mm × 12.5mm × 46mm lug-to-lug and is powered by the manually wound Sellita SW510-M-MPC-B at Élaboré grade: 23 jewels, 63-hour power reserve, 28,800 A/h (4Hz), hacking seconds, decorated with Geneva stripes, circular graining, and blued screws. The monopusher format — a single pusher integrated into the crown controlling start, stop, and reset in sequence — gives the chronograph a classically restrained appearance, the crown at 3 o'clock serving dual functions without additional pushers interrupting the case profile. Registers are oversized for legibility: elapsed minutes at 3 o'clock, running seconds at 9 o'clock. The outer scale is graduated for 15 pulsations. The two-piece dial has a glossy finish on both variants, complemented by polished blue-heated steel hands. A black calfskin leather strap with racing-hole pattern, sapphire crystals both sides, 100m water resistance. Priced at USD 1,995 preorder / USD 2,495 at launch.
