Pedral
Pedral is the Stockholm-based independent watch brand of Kevin Pedral — born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, raised in Sweden, and one of the most compelling personal narratives in contemporary independent watchmaking. In 2015 Pedral applied to Sweden's only watchmaking school and was rejected: he did not have the expected background, the eyesight, or the steady hands they were looking for. The rejection letter was polite. His response, as the brand's story page puts it, was a decade of work. He taught himself through obsessive research and hundreds of failed prototypes across three years of evenings that nobody saw. In 2017, near the breaking point, he nearly stopped. He did not. The Okapi — his first watch — launched on Kickstarter in 2018 and sold out entirely, reaching collectors in 12 countries. By 2025 Pedral watches had reached buyers in over 30 countries, and Pedral Design Studio AB (Org.nr 559484-4275, registered at Sveavägen 117A, 113 49 Stockholm) had become a recognised name in the European independent microbrand conversation. The brand's tagline — 'Designed in Stockholm. Limited by conviction' — captures both the geography and the philosophy: the limitation to 20 pieces per edition is not a supply strategy but a creative principle. When an edition closes, it joins the archive permanently and does not return.
The collection timeline follows a sequence of distinct references, each evolving the design language and raising the technical level. The Artefact (2024) introduced a new design vocabulary and sold out. The Watches and Art collaboration with artist Boris Pjanić (April 2025) bridged contemporary fine art and horology, sold out. The Maestro is the signature Pedral tonneau dress watch, distinguished by hexagonal bracelet links and a diagonal time display — an immediate visual identifier in a field where the vast majority of independent watches use conventional round cases and straight lug systems. It is currently offered from €1,300, with 5 of 20 pieces remaining. The Maestro Petite Seconde is the most considered Maestro yet: powered by a Sellita SW260 automatic movement, it features a guilloché dial, proprietary Roman numerals designed specifically for the Pedral aesthetic, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o'clock — available in two dial colourways, Soul Blue and Aura Gold. The Triomphe is the ultra-thin dress watch at 8.8mm, powered by a Swiss hand-wound movement, with guilloché dials and each edition capped at 20; currently 3 of 20 remain at from €1,500. The Okapi Classique — the watch that started everything — is available by enquiry and allocation only. The Okapi is also scheduled to return in late 2026, reimagined with a new movement, a better case, and everything Pedral has learned across every collection that followed. The Rymd GMT bespoke study introduced a world map dial with a 24-hour inner bezel and a new tonneau case in full brushed steel — the first GMT complication explored under the Pedral name.
The bespoke programme is the creative heart of the brand and where Pedral's range as a maker is most fully expressed. Commissions shown in the Bespoke Pieces archive — each already delivered, each unique — include the Skulptur form study (unconventional asymmetric lugs, guilloché sunburst dial with Hebrew numerals, teal centre, amber small seconds); the Betsy Ross (13 stars on deep blue guilloché, one per original American colony, developed in 2026 for the USA's 250th anniversary); the Tantalum study (tantalum case, multi-layer guilloché dial — copper damier centre, blued wave engine-turning, silver chapter ring, powered by La Joux-Perret 7380); the Triomphe Ceramic (white ceramic Triomphe case, orange Carreau Tissé guilloché dial, sky-blue FKM strap); the Lumos study (the entire dial surface in lumicast material, glowing uniformly in darkness); the Zaire dial study (DRC flag rendered as sunburst: emerald green outer, gold centre, red small seconds — 'heritage as a design language, not decoration'); and an auction piece created for the Time to Give charity auction organised by Stockholm Time, benefiting the Jonte Foundation. Kevin Pedral reads and answers every message personally. A short note to the contact page is all that is required to begin a commission.
