Lehmann
Lehmann is a small German watch manufacture in the Black Forest, founded in 2011 by Markus Lehmann in Schramberg. Lehmann spent some 20 years in the watch industry, much of it in precision engineering, and runs the family precision-machinery company Lehmann Präzision, which he took over from its founder Rolf Lehmann in 1998 and which builds turning and milling machines for the watch and optics industries. The watch manufacture is a division of that privately owned company. In early 2019 it moved from its first home at Gut Berneck in Schramberg to new premises in Hardt, at the Lehmann Präzision headquarters. Handelsblatt reported roughly 200 watches made in 2017, with a plan to reach about 500 a year from 2019 and around 18 people working in the manufacture; Lehmann does not publish current output.
Lehmann says its calibres are developed, largely manufactured and fully assembled in-house. Bottom plates, bridges, cocks, cases, dials and clasps are made on Lehmann's own machines, with parts held to a stated tolerance of plus or minus one hundredth of a millimetre, engraved and finished with diamond tools, and electroplated in a plating shop set up in 2019. The in-house dial manufactory, which the brand describes as unique in German watchmaking, makes dials and appliqués from blank to finished piece. Swiss AHCI watchmaker Andreas Strehler supports the technical design work. Signature details include a fully retractable crown that sits flush in the case (described by the brand as patented), a case curved to follow the wrist, and a sapphire-crystal rotor that leaves the engraved movement visible through the exhibition caseback.
The INTEMPORAL collection has eight lines, all automatic and available in stainless steel or 18 ct red gold: Window Date Basic, Window Date, Diamonds, Ceramic, Pointer Date, Dual Time, Power Reserve Window Date and Power Reserve Pointer Date. Most use the LS0003 window-date calibre (28,800 vph, 25 jewels, 42-hour power reserve) in 38 mm or 42 mm cases, the Pointer Date uses the LS0004, the Dual Time adds a 24-hour second time zone on the LS0006 (30 jewels, 60 hours), and the power-reserve models use the LS0008 and LS0009. The Diamonds line has a 38 mm case with diamond appliqués and optional diamond bezels, and the Ceramic line a 42 mm ceramic case. Published stainless-steel prices run from €5,450 (Window Date Basic, 38 mm) to €13,330 (Diamonds), with red gold on request; Handelsblatt put the average price near €10,000. Handelsblatt also reported in 2018 that Leica planned a watch series using parts supplied by Lehmann.
