MD Watches Studio is the one-man independent watch design practice of Martin Iglody — originally from Košice, Slovakia, now based in Cork, Ireland — who founded the studio in 2017 from a simple ambition: to create watches he genuinely loved. Martin's background is graphic design rather than traditional watchmaking, and his approach reflects that origin: every MD Watch begins as a sketch, evolves through a refined concept, and eventually becomes a finished watch in which every visual decision is deliberate. Working as an independent designer, Martin collaborates with skilled watchmakers and trusted manufacturing partners across Europe and Asia, staying closely involved at every stage from design to production to ensure each piece meets his standards for both quality and value. He handles customer service personally, a relationship his buyers consistently highlight as one of the brand's most distinctive qualities.
What unifies the MD Watches Studio identity — across every collection, every dial, every named variant — is the creative thread of Irish and Celtic mythology and landscape woven through each design. Ireland's wealth of mythical heritage, its coastlines, its cultural symbols, and its ancient stories have become an integral part of the brand's uniquely creative identity. The aim is not pastiche but integration: contemporary modernist designs that hint at Ireland's cultural legacy through subtle echoes and understated elements, producing watches that feel balanced and uncluttered while carrying a quiet resonance for those who know the references.
The current collection spans four active lines. The Supernatural is the core and bestselling series — a regulator-style display watch in which hours, minutes, and seconds are read from separate dials, creating the clean, uncluttered aesthetic of a classical precision instrument in a contemporary case. The Supernatural's multiple named variants draw from Celtic and Gaulish mythology: Caturix (god of battle), Triskel (the triple spiral symbol), Tonaros, Caletos, Belenos (the solar deity), Taranis (god of thunder), Thetra, and others — each distinguished by its own dial colour, hand treatment, and strap combination, priced from €459. A special limited edition within the Supernatural line, the Ghasaq (meaning 'dusk' in Arabic, غسق), was created as a tribute to the UAE, its imagery drawn from the moment the sun melts between desert dunes and sea — capturing the serene stillness of twilight for a market where the Supernatural has found a devoted following.
The Emerald Isle is a newer collection embodying timeless modernism with contemporary precision, presenting a new original design with beautifully balanced proportions, a commitment to the highest level of detailing, a stunning choice of colours, and a respected movement for long-lasting precision. The Connemara takes its name from the wild Atlantic region of County Galway and introduces twin balance wheels moving in a soft vertical rhythm, with an asymmetrical dial that adds bold individuality — a watch that the brand describes as speaking to 'the quiet harmony we seek each day.' The Nuada, the newest model, reinvents the jump hour concept — an hour display that advances in a single discrete jump rather than sweeping or ticking — named after Nuada Airgeadlámh, the mythological first king of the Tuatha Dé Danann, the supernatural race of ancient Irish tradition. The archived collections include the Celtic Legacy (the brand's award-winning debut), the SS Navigator, and the Windstar.
