Sphaera Watch Co. was founded by three friends — Michael, Daniel, and Martin — united by a shared passion for adventure and a desire to build watches that reflect the rich culture and dynamic surroundings of their home city of Salzburg. The brand's first timepieces came to life in Salzburg before the workshop grew and relocated to a larger space in Vienna, giving the team room to craft each watch with even greater care. Each founder brings a distinct personal philosophy to the work: Michael, drawing on industrial design, describes his guiding principle as 'form follows function' — the architectural maxim applied directly to watchmaking; Daniel, whose background is in filmmaking, sees both crafts as fundamentally about storytelling, each capturing a moment in time that resonates on a personal level; and Martin, who grew up in the mountains around Salzburg, traces his appreciation for authenticity and hands-on craftsmanship directly to that upbringing, and the drive it gave him to build things himself. The Sphaera name is Latin for 'sphere,' chosen to symbolise the wholeness of time — the belief that time determines our lives, that everyone is the architect of their own happiness, and that it is the stories of our experiences that ultimately define us.
Every Sphaera watch is made by hand in the brand's Austrian workshop in the mountains of Salzburg, from the first sketch through design and the crafting of most components. In close cooperation with Swiss suppliers, movements and complex components are manufactured to Sphaera's own specification before being finished and assembled entirely in-house. To keep production within the team's own hands, Sphaera funded early machinery investment through a crowdfunding campaign, a decision that has shaped the brand's approach ever since: production is deliberately limited to roughly 300 watches per year, prioritising quality over quantity, reducing the waste of resources and raw materials, and favouring regionally sourced materials wherever possible as a step toward more sustainable, circular production. That same philosophy extends to service: every Sphaera watch carries a 24-month warranty, custom engraving options, and free shipping on orders above €350.
The current collection is built around three core lines. Meridian continues Sphaera's tradition of the field watch — a robust, practical instrument with a timeless, immediately legible dial, brushed and polished 316L stainless steel case (38.5mm × 45mm lug-to-lug × 10mm), a carved small-seconds subdial, and applied brushed markers filled with Super-LumiNova BWG9; it is powered by the hand-wound Swiss-made Sellita SW216 with Côte de Genève-decorated bridges visible through the sapphire caseback, fitted with a handmade goatskin leather strap in a choice of Black, Gray, Beige, or Olive Green, and rated to 100 metres water resistance. EPOCH Classic and EPOCH Sport form the brand's flagship automatic pairing — the Classic leaning into vintage-inspired dress proportions and the Sport built for a more rugged, tool-watch character, both offered at €1,890 and forming the visual and mechanical backbone of the wider Sphaera range. Beyond the three core lines, Sphaera also produces a Desk Diver series (available in Sapphire and Hesalite crystal variants) and a rotating programme of small-batch Rare Editions — including the Blue Damast and Blue Moon references, the latter released to coincide with the astronomical full moon — each showcasing more experimental dial materials and finishing beyond the standard collection.
