Loresum

Loresum Watches is an independent watchmaking company, operating under Angel Jason Creative Company Limited and shipping from both the UK and Hong Kong, founded by designer Jason Chan around the mission of achieving a new standard in both aesthetics and mechanics. The brand's unusual name is drawn from 'lorem ipsum,' the placeholder text used throughout the design world to demonstrate a layout's visual composition without distracting content — Loresum takes that idea of pure aesthetic completeness as its founding philosophy, aiming to create original, artful watches whose beauty stands on its own. Chan brings genuine watch-industry pedigree to the project: his first brand, JW Watch, debuted in December 2017, and its JW-01 and JW-02 models became sufficiently sought-after that they remain out of stock to this day; he subsequently joined the Behrens Original team as a designer, where he worked within a mature development team and deepened his expertise in high-quality proprietary movement modules before founding Loresum. That philosophy carries directly into Loresum's production standard: the brand does not use pre-made parts sourced from the open market, developing its own bespoke modules — moonphase, regulator, jumping hour, and more — in-house, so that every mechanical detail aligns precisely with the brand's own aesthetic intentions rather than being constrained by an off-the-shelf component. Loresum's designs are also explicitly built around the golden ratio, drawing on that ancient mathematical principle of proportion to give each case and dial layout a considered, harmonious visual balance.

The LS04 — The True Moonphase — is built around a genuine 29.5-day moonphase complication driven by a 59-tooth gear module, a traditional mechanical solution advancing the moon disc once every 24 hours across the full lunar cycle. Rather than a flat printed moon, Loresum renders the moon itself as a mother-of-pearl cut-out bearing a 3D-printed lunar texture, set within a CNC mirror-polished frame on a rotating aventurine disc surrounded by Super-LumiNova stars for a luminous night-sky effect when dark. The skeletonised hands are custom-shaped to avoid obscuring the dial, forming a distinctive spear-like silhouette where they overlap, finished in linear-brushed gunmetal plating and filled with Super-LumiNova. The 39.5mm case is just 11mm thick including its 2mm domed sapphire crystal (9 on the Mohs hardness scale), multi-polished, and available with either the automatic Miyota 9015 (4Hz, 42-hour power reserve) or, as an upgrade, the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 with clockwise moonphase decoration. The LS04 V2 36.5, the platform's refined successor, keeps the same 29.5-day moon-cycle mechanism — now built on the Sellita SW200-1 as standard — but enlarges the moonphase aperture for greater presence and moves to a gold-plated finish glowing warmly through an exhibition caseback, behind which an engraved moon rotor spins in silent mechanical echo of the display on the dial. Every LS04 V2 dial is cut from genuine natural stone — Aventurine, Eisenkiesel, Bloodstone, or Garnet — meaning no two examples are ever identical, and the 18mm strap is produced in partnership with Hong Kong sustainable-luxury brand MONVES, using vegetable-tanned full-grain calf leather from the historic Italian tannery Conceria 800, chosen to age and patina gracefully with wear.

The LS06 — Royal Ellipse — takes Loresum in an entirely different direction: a distinctive 1970s-inspired ellipse-shaped case measuring 35.5mm × 39.5mm and just 9.4mm thick, reviving the era's fascination with bold non-round silhouettes (rectangular, cushion, tank, and ellipse) that broke from the traditional round watch case. At its heart is the HZ5000a — a genuine micro-rotor movement with a small-seconds display, finished with customised heat-blued screws, chosen specifically because true micro-rotor movements have become rare in modern watchmaking and were historically a hallmark of only the most prestigious 1970s luxury houses. Each LS06 is fitted with a large hardstone dial cut from genuine natural stone — Charoite, Malachite, Tiger's Eye, Lapis Lazuli, or Onyx — among the largest stone dials available in the category today, a format only a handful of specialist factories can cut this large and thin without cracking, giving each piece its own unrepeatable pattern. The LS06 ships on an Epsom-pattern genuine Italian calfskin leather strap with a quick-release spring bar, with an optional metal bead-of-rice bracelet available separately. Across the whole Loresum range, Chan's stated goal remains constant: to make historically rare, high-end complications — genuine moonphase, true micro-rotor winding, hardstone dials — accessible at a price point well below where major manufactures have traditionally placed them.
