Benjamin James Watches was founded by Benjamin James Adams, a designer whose career had already taken him through leading watch design roles at other English watch brands and a portfolio of more than 20 collections before he set out to build a marque of his own. The brand, in its own words, was born from an obsession with proportion, detail, and the artistry of watch design, drawing inspiration from the scenic English countryside where Adams grew up — a reflection of both his lifelong passion for watches and the timeless beauty of his surroundings. That inspiration runs deeper than landscape alone: Adams traces his love of classic, shaped dress watches directly to his grandfather, and describes the brand's mission as a deliberate return to an era of elegance, where proportions genuinely make sense on the wrist rather than following the trend toward increasingly oversized cases. 'Benjamin James is about offering something different,' he says, 'a fresh perspective on classic design, rooted in passion, craftsmanship, and a dedication to those who value the finer details. Since late 2025, the brand has operated from Hong Kong, where Adams and his wife are based — genuinely family-run, with every order personally packed by the founder and his small team.
The Scarifour is Benjamin James's signature model and design language: a rectangular case with an integrated bracelet, deliberately sized against the grain of an industry trend toward ever-larger watches, built instead for those who don't want what the brand calls a dinner-plate-sized timepiece — proportions styled after the elegant, shaped watches of the 1970s and 1980s. The range spans three tiers. Scarifour Classic is the extra-thin foundation of the line, offered in Swiss-made hand-wound or quartz movements inside an 8.3mm case, with dial options including Classic Silver, Blue Hour, Two-Tone Smoked Black, and Royal Purple, from £498. Scarifour Automatic adds self-winding functionality via the Japanese-made Miyota 9039 movement in a 9.5mm case, with a running seconds hand, in colourways including Denim Blue, British Racing Green, and Champagne Salmon, at £672. The Limited Production tier is reserved for the brand's most special variations, each capped at 100 pieces per year — including natural stone dial references in Lapis Lazuli, Green Jade, and Burnt Orange Agate, alongside a mother-of-pearl Ice Blue reference, priced from £570 to £948.
After two years of development, Benjamin James is preparing to launch its next chapter: the Deerhurst Regulator, a manually wound regulator-style dress watch powered by the Swiss-made Sellita SW266-1 M movement. Measuring 36mm wide by 42mm long and under 9mm thick, the Deerhurst is built around a finely shaped stainless steel case with deep lug bevelling, a three-row Clous de Paris (hobnail) guilloché bezel, deep lacquered dials with concentric-finished subdials, applied indexes on both the main dial and hours subdial, a fully bespoke neo-vintage numeral font designed specifically for the model, and sapphire crystal front and back through a full display caseback. Offered in off-white, burgundy, and denim blue dial colours, the first production batch is expected around November 2026, priced from £945 excluding taxes, with priority given to the brand's existing customers and community.
