STREHLER is an independent Swiss watch brand founded in 2023 by Andreas Strehler — a watchmaker who describes himself simply as 'a watchmaker,' though he is in fact among the most respected in the world: a Prix Gaïa laureate, a member of the AHCI, and, since 1995, an independent watchmaker in his own right, designing, constructing, and manufacturing complicated watches under his own name from his workshop in Sirnach, a small town in Thurgau between Lake Constance and the Alps. That original Andreas Strehler atelier has produced some of the most technically extreme watches in contemporary independent horology — the Sauterelle à Lune Exacte, whose moon-phase display deviates by only one day every 2 million years, and the Tourbillon Trans-Axial, the first watch to place a constant-force mechanism and a tourbillon regulator on the same axis — pieces that typically run past CHF 100,000 and take over a year to deliver given the traditional, largely hand-executed production process behind them. Strehler is also the founder of UhrTeil AG, a micromechanical design, engineering, and manufacturing company that has spent nearly fifteen years developing movement architectures and components for other respected independent brands; astute observers have noted that the fundamental architecture behind Strehler's own SA-30 calibre shares clear lineage with the Vianney Halter U30A and the Grönefeld G-06 — both, in fact, Strehler constructions supplied as movement architecture and key components to fellow independent watchmakers, each brand then executing and finishing the design differently.

The idea of an everyday watch that could be worn for any occasion first took shape in Strehler's mind in 2020, motivated by a straightforward frustration: so few people could actually experience his work, given the price and production time of his haute horlogerie output. STREHLER — what the brand itself terms 'Belle Horlogerie,' positioned deliberately between the elegant and the industrial, distinct from the high horology of the Andreas Strehler name — was his answer: uncompromising in-house manufacture, quality, and finishing standards, at a genuinely more attainable price and production timeline. Strehler is a self-declared admirer of Breguet, but chose deliberately not to make STREHLER watches too classical, opting instead for robust materials and construction built to last generations. The workshop itself occupies a building that once served as a textile factory, known historically for producing the lace of Sankt Gallen in the 19th and 20th centuries — now home to both UhrTeil AG and Strehler's own ateliers, staffed by a dedicated team of mechanics, watchmakers, and an engraver who runs the laser and hand-engraving work, covering every stage of production in-house.

The Sirna, STREHLER's debut model launched in 2023, is a three-hand automatic watch for daily wear, its 40mm × 8.5mm surgical-grade stainless steel case featuring a concave profile that blends fluidly into elongated, gently downward-bending lugs — an ergonomic homage to Andreas Strehler's far more complex Cocon case. The dial, designed in collaboration with renowned watch designer Eric Giroud, is machined from titanium — a material that, unlike softer metals, resists stamping or embossing and so demands individual laser engraving and hand-polishing for each example — anodised to a vivid royal blue that will not fade with time, its three-dimensional woven pattern catching light distinctively across the surface; circular-brushed steel chapter rings frame the hours, minutes, and small seconds, and the leaf-shaped hands are hand-polished stainless steel. Inside is the SA-30, an entirely in-house automatic calibre of 194 components and 30 jewels, running at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a 60-hour power reserve from a free-sprung balance and Strehler's own Swiss lever escapement, wound by a skeletonised 18-karat gold rotor — finished throughout with circular Côtes de Genève, perlage, and chamfered, hand-polished bevels visible through the sapphire caseback. Priced at CHF 20,000 excluding taxes and limited only by the atelier's genuine production capacity of roughly 30 to 50 pieces a year, SJX called the SA-30 arguably the only in-house automatic movement with this level of finishing at this price point anywhere in the independent watch world.

The Säntis, STREHLER's second model, evolves the Sirna into an elegant and genuinely intuitive world-timer, its 40mm × 9.7mm case sharing the same concave, Cocon-derived silhouette but now housing the SA-30W — a dedicated world-time module developed entirely by Andreas Strehler and added directly onto the proven SA-30 architecture, contributing 41 further components and operated via a Cottier system controlled solely through the crown, with no additional pushers required. The dial, minute ring, and crown insert are offered across 20 different anodised titanium colourways, each achieved through a specific voltage during the anodisation process, giving collectors genuine personalisation while the 24 city locations themselves remain fixed; luminous printing on both the city ring and the 24-hour day/night ring ensures the watch remains legible and useful even during night flights. The open 18-karat yellow gold oscillating weight offers a panoramic view of the movement's Geneva stripes, perlage, and polished bevels, while the crown carries Strehler's signature butterfly logo, engraved on a titanium insert and set into the steel crown by hand. Priced at CHF 24,750 excluding taxes, the Säntis shares the same modest annual production ceiling with the Sirna — together representing Andreas Strehler's deliberate, still-exclusive attempt to bring his exceptional in-house watchmaking to a wider circle of collectors than his eponymous haute horlogerie name ever could.
